On this page a summary of each countries regulatory structure of healthcare delivery is provided
UK
To practice as a health care professional the individual has to registered with the relevant regulatory body. With the exception of Pharmacy each of these bodies cover the entire UK so their is no requirement to separately to register in each of the four countries (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) than form the UK. There are a total of nine healthcare regulators:
- General Chiropractic Council (GCC) regulates the chiropractic profession
- General Dental Council (GDC) protects patients and regulates dental teams
- General Medical Council (GMC) regulates doctors
- General Optical Council (GOC) regulates the optical professions
- General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) regulates the practice of osteopathy
- General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) regulates pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises in Britain
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) regulates health, psychological and social work professionals
- Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) regulates nurses and midwives
- Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is the regulatory and professional body for pharmacists in Northern Ireland.
